Due to the heavily rising demand in recent years for large-scale components for mechanical engineering and plant manufacturing as well as equipment for wind turbine generators, the Dessau site of gsd GmbH had reached full working capacity. At least in the short-term, no suitable areas or production halls were available for further growth in Dessau.
To expand our steel engineering capacities, a former tractor factory in Schönebeck/Elbe was acquired in March 2006. smb Schönebecker Maschinenbau GmbH was founded by tm Verwaltungs GmbH on 28 March 2006. After a conversion phase of around six months and c. €5 million of investment in two brand new production lines, steel tower construction was commenced in autumn 2006. At the same time, existing component manufacture of lighter steel assemblies and special cab chassis with 60 employees was continued, optimised, and also expanded.
Around 100 employees currently complete c. 150,000 production hours at smb-Stahlturmfertigung annually, working on an area of c. 40.000 m². The sister companies gsd and smb, operating within the tmGROUP, complement each other in a practically symbiotic way as a manufacturing community and are thus in a position to flexibly fulfil the requirements of our valued customers on single-order and project business at all times. In addition, the smb site in Schönebeck has further growth reserves.
